Nova Middle School Law Studies Program Holds Mock Swearing in of New Student Attorneys and Judges

Nova Middle School Administration; Nova Middle Law Studies Students; Circuit Court Judges Ari Porth and Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor

WHAT:
17th Judicial Circuit Court Judges Ari Porth will administer the Oath of Admission in a mock swearing-in ceremony for more than 100 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in the Nova Middle Law Studies program, recognizing them as the school’s newest attorneys. The students earned the honor after passing a rigorous two-day Nova Middle version of the Florida Bar exam. Additionally, the top 10 students who earned the highest scores in the evidence exam will be sworn in as judges. The ceremony includes encouraging words from guest speakers, including Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor.

WHY:
The Nova Middle Bar exam tested students’ knowledge of course material – from vocabulary to civil and criminal law – as well as the application of the law in hypothetical situations. Students who passed the exam with a grade of 75% or higher are being sworn in as Nova Middle attorneys. The students being sworn in as judges will preside over the mock trials of the lower grades. The students’ Oath of Admission is a promise to uphold the laws and rules of Nova Middle School’s courtroom and adhere to the highest moral standards of integrity and ethics.
